Evaluation and benchmarking of semantic technologies

Evaluation and benchmarking of semantic technologies was my main research area during my Ph.D. period. In the scope of Knowledge Web I've developed a methodology for benchmarking ontology tools and, from 2005 to 2007 we followed that methodology for benchmarking the interoperability of different semantic technologies.
Inside the SEALS project, I have defined a methodology for carrying out evaluation campaigns over semantic technologies.

Performance and scalability of ontology tools

Evaluation of ontology technology is also of my interest. I've developed a benchmark suite for evaluating the performance of the WebODE ontology engineering platform. It is called the WebODE Performance Benchmark Suite (WPBS) and in its web page you can find more information about it.

Interoperability of ontology tools

How to achieve interoperability between ontology tools is a main problem in the Semantic Web. I have organised two activities that involved the benchmarking of the interoperability of Semantic Web tools; one using RDF(S) as interchange language and another using OWL. In the RDF(S) Interoperability Benchmarking web page you can find the benchmark suites used for evaluating the RDF(S) import, the RDF(S) export and the interoperability of ontology development tools.

I have also organised the benchmarking of the interoperability of ontology development tools using OWL as interchange language. The benchmark suites to be used are in the OWL interoperability benchmarking web page as well as all the information about the IBSE tool, a tool for the automatic evaluation of interoperability.

Ontology languages

Ontology representation and the problem of interoperability are the reason of my interest in the different ontology representation languages. Mainly the W3C standards RDF(S) and OWL.
